Interaction between Optical Fibre Sensors and Matrix Cracks in Crossply Gfrp Laminates. Part 2: Crack Detection 4. Crack Detection Using the Polarimetric Sensor and an Fft Band Pass Filter
نویسنده
چکیده
Polarimetric optical fibre sensors have been embedded within the 0° ply and close to the 0/90 interface of transparent cross-ply GFRP coupons. The coupons have been subjected to an increasing quasi-static load so that transverse ply cracks initiate and propagate across the coupon. Crack accumulation has been monitored using the optical output signal from the polarimetric sensor, strain measurements from a long gauge-length extensometer, load recordings during the test and by video recording of crack development. These combined observations have enabled a direct correlation to be made between matrix crack growth past the sensor and a step-change in the sensor response. The use of band-pass FFT filtering has demonstrated that such cracks could be detected in real time.

Image De-Noising and Micro Crack Detection of Solar Cells
Solar cell is known as a sustainable and environment friendly source of energy in nature. It converts sunlight directly into electricity with zero emission and also without side-effects on the environment. But, solar cells have optical and mechanical defects which include the type of micro crack, the size of crack, and the noise from electrical or electromechanical interference during the image...
متن کاملUsing Pattern Search Algorithm and Finite Element Method to Detect Rotor Cracks
The vibration pattern of a rotor system reflects the mechanical parameter changes in the system. Hence, the use of vibration monitoring is considered as a possible means of detecting the presence and growth of the cracks. In this paper, a pattern search based method for shaft crack detection is proposed and described which formulates the shaft crack detection as an optimization problem by means...
متن کاملDamage Assessment using an Inverse Fracture Mechanics approach
This paper studies the application of an inverse methodology for problem solving in fracture mechanics using the finite element analysis. The method was applied to both detection of subsurface cracks and the study of propagating cracks. The procedure for detection of subsurface cracks uses a first order optimization analysis coupled with a penalty function to solve for the unknown geometric par...

The quality of the road pavement has always been one of the major concerns for governments around the world. Cracks in the asphalt are one of the most common road tensions that generally threaten the safety of roads and highways. In recent years, automated inspection methods such as image and video processing have been considered due to the high cost and error of manual metho...
متن کاملFiber Loop Ringdown Sensor for Potential Real-Time Monitoring of Cracks in Concrete Structures: An Exploratory Study
A fiber loop ringdown (FLRD) concrete crack sensor is described for the first time. A bare single mode fiber (SMF), without using other optical components or chemical coatings, etc., was utilized to construct the sensor head, which was driven by a FLRD sensor system. The performance of the sensor was evaluated on concrete bars with dimensions 20 cm × 5 cm × 5 cm, made in our laboratory. Cracks ...
